Insert generic complaints/bitching about Dealerships/Used Car Lots/people here.

Since you can't win with any of the dealerships...
So you may have seen how my 20 year old Ford F150 has had it's differential say "no mas" and begin the process of self immolation via the pinion seal. Since other things are likely to break in the process of towing the Audi to various racetracks, I'm starting the process of actually shopping for a truck (as opposed to getting Autotrader alerts in my mailbox).
Requirements: 3/4 or 1-ton diesel. 4WD preferred as the trailer is parked in grass and gravel, and I have gotten my 2WD with LS diff stuck before trying to get the trailer out (It's not required). Not a regular cab. No vinyl seats. Doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Nice to haves: Backup camera, Bluetooth with audio streaming.
The first place (Ford dealer) had ONE diesel on the lot. ONE. It had been owned by a smoker, and the friend of the family who owns the dealership wasn't very enthusiastic about that truck. So I said pass.
Second place (GMC dealer) had two types of diesel trucks. One was vinyl interior work trucks in refrigerator white (Vinyl plus Georgia heat = need a spatula to peel yourself off the seats), the other was Texas Cadillacs (which are not necessary, and I'd rather have a Cayenne for the money, if I didn't need to tow). Nothing in the middle with cloth seats, part time 4WD and a turbodiesel.
Third place (Chevy dealer) had no diesels on the lot. At all.
Fourth place (Chrysler Group dealer) had a few diesels on the lot, but didn't want to show them to me, because I wasn't waving cash in their face. Until Mr. Salesman obliquely accused me of wasting his time, to which I finally snapped at him "And somehow your commission-based compensation structure is my problem. Exactly what planet are you from?" (My grandmother would say that's my Dutch blood talking there)
So I'm not exactly in the best of moods, and I'm just ready to deal with the Internet or fleet departments to get what I want, without the whole "Oh, are you going to buy today?" crap.

I thought the Steve Lehto angry person picture from his complaint post made it point enough, no? ;)

that's brutal. Your demands don't seem to be too extreme either but dealing with the dealerships seems to be a pretty unlucky task here on the Oppo board lately. Maybe you'll find your truck when I find my Gen Coupe, then everyone can be happy.

New or used? I'm sure you've done your research, but I would avoid the Ford 6.4 like the plague. It makes the 6.0 look like the 7.3, which the 6.0 wasn't really bad in the 06-07 years. Early LB7 Duramax's are to be avoided, unless you want to replace the injectors immediately. The Allison also likes limp mode. And pretty much any Dodge with an automatic should be avoided, with the exception of one that has been proven to be built by reputable company.

Used. I'm going for a 6.0L Ford, or at least an LLY Duramax. There was one manual Dodge, but it had many other issues.
It's still annoying dealing with the lots.

I would definitely go for the 6.0, though I would get to the headgasket problems before they get to you. Once those are out of the way, they are pretty much bulletproof. The Torqueshift is a damn good transmission. The LLY were definitely better than the LB7, but I've had a few friends with them, and they've had nothing but problems with the Allison. Though they were trucks with programmers, that doesn't really excuse the fact that there are Torqueshifts handling 550whp stock.

Well, the main juicy bit was snapping at the sales person who decided that because I am just looking at not immediately waving cash in his face, therefore I'm to be ignored because he's too chicken to tell his boss that they shouldn't compensate him 100% commission only.
How you are compensated as a salesman is not my problem, and if you try to make it my problem, I will call you out on it.
My parents both say that I've gotten the "I don't take crap from anyone" down to almost a science. I guess that's why I don't have a partner.
